Employment & Empowerment Expo Set for Saturday, Sept. 16
SEPTEMBER 6, 2023
The City of Dubuque will co-sponsor an event aimed at helping provide unemployed or underemployed residents with tools to gain family-sustaining employment. The Employment & Empowerment Expo will be held at the Multicultural Family Center, 1157 Central Ave., from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 16. Advanced online registration at www.mfcdbq.org is requested.
Attendees will have the opportunity to explore skills training enrollment, resume building assistance, interview skills coaching, and even have a professional headshot taken at no charge. The first 100 people will also be provided lunch, childcare for children ages 4 and up, and a Jule bus pass. All attendees can also enter to win one of three $100 Visa gift cards.
The Employment & Empowerment Expo is being supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the International City & County Managers Association (ICMA). Dubuque was chosen by ICMA to be one of 10 cities nationwide to host one in a series of learning and training opportunities aimed at boosting upward economic mobility for selected communities. Economic mobility describes the upward or downward movement of a person’s economic or social status throughout their life.
Beyond the City of Dubuque, ICMA, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, additional event co-sponsors include Greater Dubuque Development, Dubuque Works, Northeast Iowa Community College, the Multicultural Family Center, and IowaWorks.
