Fatal Shooting Investigation Update

DUBUQUE, Iowa – On 02/07/23 at 12:47 a.m. Dubuque Police were dispatched to the 700 block of Rhomberg Avenue for the report of shots fired. Officers attempted life-saving measures on a 31-year-old man who had sustained several gunshot wounds. The shooting victim was transported to Dubuque Mercy Hospital where he died from his wounds. The victim in this case is now being identified as Lonnie Edward Burns, of Dubuque. The initial investigation revealed that there was a disturbance involving several persons in the yard adjacent to 711 Rhomberg Avenue when a gun became involved and shots were fired, killing Burns. This was not a random act of violence. Participants apparently fled the area on foot in several directions following the incident. Investigators are actively reviewing cameras systems, speaking with witnesses, and conducting other related follow-up. For any citizens residing in the vicinity of this crime that have personal surveillance systems, police are asking for them to review their footage and to notify one of the listed investigators if they find any persons captured on camera following the incident.
