DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Dubuque City Council has approved City Attorney Crenna Brumwell's appointment of Jason Lehman as assistant city attorney. The position has been vacant since August 2021.
As the City’s assistant city attorney, Lehman will prosecute ordinance and traffic violations; represent City boards and commissions; provide advice and legal opinions to officials, department managers, and City employees; and draft legal documents, memoranda, and opinions.
Since 2014 and until accepting this position with the City of Dubuque, he operated Lehman Legal, PLC, a general law practice in Dubuque specializing in employment law and civil litigation. Previously, Lehman was with Fuerste, Carew, Juergens, and Sudmeier, PC, in Dubuque where he served as an attorney/partner from 2013-2014 and an associate attorney from 2007-2013. From 2006-2007 he was a legal intern with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission in Des Moines.
He has been a member of the Iowa State Bar Association and the Dubuque County Bar Association since 2007 and the Wisconsin Bar Association since 2008 and was a member of the American Bar Association from 2005-2017.
Lehman earned his juris doctorate degree from the Drake University Law School, emphasizing on constitutional law, civil rights, litigation, and alternative dispute resolution. He received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Iowa and an associate’s degree from Northeast Iowa Community College.
