DUBUQUE, Iowa — City of Dubuque Public Works Director John Klosterman has named Jacob Jansen as the City’s next resource management supervisor.
“Jake has an extensive background in environmentalist efforts in our community. His commitment to implementing sustainable and innovative practices makes him a great fit for this position” said Klosterman.
As the City’s resource management supervisor, Jansen will be responsible for the planning and supervision of all City collection and processing programs of solid waste, recyclables, and organics. He will work to identify waste reduction efficiencies in an effort to identify a path toward zero-waste. Jansen will also work alongside the City’s sustainability office and the Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency to implement the Solid Waste Operations and Fees Study, the City of Dubuque Comprehensive Plan, the City of Dubuque Climate Action Plan, and other City initiatives.
Jansen earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and political science from Loras College and is currently completing his master’s degree in sustainable peacebuilding at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His previous experience includes serving as a community fellow with the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee; a graduate researcher with the City of Milwaukee Environmental Collaboration Office; and a project coordinator with the Clayton County Iowa, Energy District. In each role Jansen worked to improve community sustainability through various initiatives.
