City's FY2023 Budget Public Meetings Start Feb. 16

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Dubuque City Council will hold a series of public meetings as part of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 recommended budget review process. Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to participate.

The process begins with a public hearing on Wednesday, Feb. 16 to establish the maximum property tax dollars for FY2023. Dubuque City Manager Mike Van Milligen will then present the FY2023 Recommended Budget at the Monday, Feb. 21, Dubuque City Council meeting.

The process continues with seven public meetings to review City department/division budget details and concludes with a final public hearing on Tuesday, March 29, to adopt the FY2023 Operating and Capital Budgets.
  
BUDGET PUBLIC MEETING SCHEDULE:
  • Wednesday, Feb. 16: Public hearing to establish maximum property tax dollars for FY2023
  • Monday, Feb. 21: FY2023 Budget recommendation presented to the City Council
  • Wednesday, March 2: Legal Services, City Clerk, Public Information Office, Human Resources, City Manager’s Office, and City Council
  • Thursday, March 3: Health Services, Library, Airport, Office of Shared Prosperity and Neighborhood Support, Office of Equity and Human Rights, and Finance
  • Wednesday, March 9: Housing & Community Development, Purchase of Services, Planning, and Economic Development
  • Thursday, March 10: Parks, Multicultural Family Center, AmeriCorps, and Recreation
  • Tuesday, March 22: Emergency Management, Emergency Communications, Police, and Fire
  • Wednesday, March 23: Information Services, Water, Water & Resource Recovery Center, and Public Works
  • Thursday, March 24: Five Flags Civic Center, Grand River Center, Mystique Community Ice Center, Transportation Services, and Engineering
  • Tuesday, March 29: Final hearing to adopt the FY2023 Budget
The public is invited to attend the public hearings and meetings in which City staff from each department and division present FY2023 budget information to the City Council. All meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers on the second floor of the Historic Federal Building at 350 W. Sixth St. and will be aired live on CityChannel Dubuque (Mediacom cable channels 8 and 117.2), streamed live, and archived on the City’s website at www.cityofdubuque.org/media, and streamed live on the City’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cityofdubuque.

The public can provide input in person or virtually through the GoToMeeting platform. Instructions can be found within the meeting agenda at www.cityofdubuque.org/agendas. Public input on the FY2023 budget may also be submitted online through the “Balancing Act” Budget Simulation tool and the budget public comments form at www.cityofdubuque.org/FY2023budget.

The recommended budget materials will be available on the City of Dubuque website on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at www.cityofdubuque.org/FY2023budget and printed copies will be made available for checkout from the Carnegie-Stout Public Library Reference Desk.
