Jan. 13, 2022 -- For Immediate Release

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced it has awarded the City of Dubuque a $2 million grant to prevent home health hazards.

The grant is part of HUD’s Healthy Homes Production Grant Program which aims to identify and address health and safety hazards in low-income families’ homes. In total, HUD awarded nearly $104.7 million to 60 non-profit organizations, and state and local government agencies as part of the program.

The City of Dubuque’s Housing & Community Development Department will partner with the Dubuque Visiting Nurses Associations (VNA) to use grant funds to assist residents with fixing home hazards that cause disease and injury. An estimated 100 Dubuque homes will be improved to prevent housing-based health and safety hazards such as mold and moisture, carbon monoxide, electrical hazards, injury and safety hazards, and lead-based paint.

Details and the grant application will be available for residents soon at www.cityofdubuque.org/housing.
