DUBUQUE, Iowa – The City of Dubuque, in partnership with United Way of the Dubuque Area Tri-States, has launched VolunteerDBQ.com, an online portal to connect residents with volunteer opportunities in the community.
The website allows users to browse available volunteer opportunities and connect with area non-profits. Volunteers can easily view opportunities that match their skills, interests, and abilities. Additionally, non-profits can upload their organization’s volunteer needs to seek community help. The site is an updated version of United Way’s “Get Connected” platform designed to be a hub for community change for volunteers and non-profits alike.
A Volunteer Generation Fund grant totaling $29,799 annually from Volunteer Iowa will allow the City of Dubuque AmeriCorps program to strategically enhance and implement the platform, strengthening the Dubuque’s volunteer network. Volunteer DBQ will support organizations by providing resources to retain existing volunteers, implementing new volunteer management strategies, and connecting new volunteers with community opportunities.
The initiative will also work to build relationships between residents, local nonprofits, schools, local governments, and businesses to achieve organizational goals and community-wide success, changing the way the community looks at service and volunteering and broadening what it means to serve in our community. These various partnerships will help diversify Dubuque’s volunteer community, advancing equity and inclusion in our community.
“The platform launches at a time of critical need in our community, as many are still hurting from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said City of Dubuque AmeriCorps Coordinator Sarah Berna. “After nearly two years of being disconnected, volunteering is a great way to reconnect with your community while making a difference. Volunteering can help improve physical and mental health, career advancement, and so much more.”
The Volunteer Dubuque platform is currently live at
www.volunteerDBQ.com. For more information, contact Sarah Berna, at 563-580-6942 or
