Sept. 22, 2020 -- For Immediate Release

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The City of Dubuque announced today the concepts selected for the 2020 Storm Drain Mural Project. Congratulations to the following artists on their winning designs:
  • “Critters,” by David Barba, will be painted at Rhomberg Ave. and Marshall St.
  • “Clean Water Happy Otter,” by Emily Cotton Cram, will be painted at White St. and E. 13th St.
  • “Keeping Environment Clean Together,” by Dan Leick, will be painted at Grandview Ave. and Rosedale St.
  • “The Fisherman,” by Chloe Peil, will be painted at Windsor Ave. and Merz St.
  • “Protect Our Wildlife,” by Chloe Peil, will be painted at Loras Blvd. and Loras Pkwy.
The artists will paint the murals during the month of October. A panel of judges comprised of members from the City of Dubuque Arts and Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission and Resiliency Commission and a local arts educator reviewed and scored the entries.

A total of 49 designs from 22 individual artists and two artist groups were submitted. Concepts were scored on educational value, creativity, aesthetic value, and how appropriate the design is for people of all ages and backgrounds. The goal of the murals is to raise awareness of storm drains as a connection to our local waterways.

The City was awarded seven gallons of Diamond Vogel paint for this project through Paint Iowa Beautiful, a program that provides free paint to a wide variety of public service projects throughout Iowa.
