One Person Arrested in Overnight Shooting

DUBUQUE, Iowa – On July 30, 2020, at approximately 10:40 p.m. Officers responded to the 2300 block of Central Avenue for the reports of shots fired and located Jerramy Vasquez, 39 years old, of Dubuque suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. Vasquez said he observed Shawn Turner, 24 years old, of Dubuque exit a maroon GMC SUV and approach two females in the 2300 block of Central Avenue. Vasquez indicated Turner asked the females to come with him prompting Vasquez to intervene. Vasquez and Turner engaged in a struggle before Turner got back into the passenger side of the vehicle. As the vehicle was pulling away Turner shot Vasquez in the leg.
The vehicle was located parked to the rear of 2201/2203 Washington Street. Search warrants were executed at 2203 Washington Street and on the GMC. Two shell casings were located inside the vehicle and one shell casing was located on the street in the 2300 block of Central Avenue.
Vasquez was transported to UnityPoint Finley Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Turner was arrested as he approached the Washington Street residence. Turner is charged with Attempted Murder and Public Intoxication.
Attempted Murder is a Class “B” felony punishable by 25 years in prison. Public Intoxication is a Simple Misdemeanor punishable by no more than 30 days in county jail.
