On March 31st, 2017, at 2:19 a.m., Dubuque Police & Fire personnel responded to 870 Kane Street on the report of a stabbing.

On March 31st, 2017, at 2:19 a.m., Dubuque Police & Fire personnel responded to 870 Kane Street on the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive adult female inside the residence with injuries consistent with being stabbed. Paramedics declared the female dead at the scene. An adult male was also present at the residence and identified as Fontae C. Buelow, 25, of 870 Kane Street. It is believed the victim and Buelow got into an altercation at the residence that culminated in Buelow allegedly stabbing and killing her. A knife was recovered at the scene. The victim’s identity will be released later today after all family notifications have been made.

Buelow was transported to the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center where was interviewed by investigators and ultimately charged with 1st Degree Murder. He was additionally charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. He remains incarcerated in the Dubuque County Jail pending an initial court appearance.

First Degree Murder is a Class A Felony punishable by life in prison.
