Mother Earth

Artist: Christine Murphy

City/State: Chicago, IL

About the Work and the Artist: Christine was born and raised on the Northwest side of Chicago. Since she can remember, Tina has enjoyed making three dimensional artworks. From the School of the Art Institute to many private guilds and studios, she has grown as a professional sculptor. Tina is excited to own Rock Art Studio, Inc. in the historic Flat Iron Arts Building in the Wicker Park/Bucktown area. Her area of expertise is modern and classical figurative sculptures.

My vision was to represent the natural artistry and beauty that Mother Nature, the greatest artist of all, has lain before us. These gifts portray all of the essentials of life. In her breast she holds the sun, the moon and the stars. The coverlet acts as a sanctuary for the earth’s many gifts - corn and vegetables, wildflowers and trees, wheat and soil, fruit and seeds, livestock and fish. A baby eagle’s nest at the base of the piece contrasts with the mighty feathers that her grace her shoulders, representing her enduring strength. Strong waters of the mighty Mississippi River pour from her hair and down her back. An unusual trait for a fine art sculpture, she is actually a bench also.
