Submit Your Budget Ideas

  1. City staff are asking Dubuque residents and stakeholders to “come to the table” as they prepare the City’s operating and capital improvement program budgets for fiscal year (FY) 2019, which runs July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019. The public is encouraged to “come to the table” and bring “ingredients” (their input related to the city budget) to create a “meal” (budget) that will serve the entire community. Input collected through this fall’s community engagement efforts will be reviewed by staff and will assist in the development of a recommended FY2019 budget to be submitted to the City Council in January 2018. The City Council will then consider the recommended budget and the public will have additional opportunities to offer input during seven public meetings in February and early March. The City’s operating budget (day to day costs of providing city services) is around $130 million and the capital budget, which includes major projects and improvements, is approximately $40 million.

  2. Please submit your ideas for the City's budget. These ideas could be capital improvements, such as park improvements, street improvements or new amenities. These ideas can also be service related, such as specific programming, recreation classes, or a change in how a service is provided.
