The Leisure Services Department provides a variety of recreational classes for both adult and youth throughout the year, including:

Summer Playground Program
The summer playground program provides a variety of outdoor activities utilizing trained leaders for children ages 8-14. This free program meets Monday through Friday, mornings and afternoons, at 16 different locations in the community.
Summer Tot Lot, ages 3-5, and Play Lot, ages 6-8, are also offered for eight weeks, Monday through Friday, during mornings and afternoons.
Special Populations Recreation
The Leisure Services Department attempts to provide recreational activities for mentally and physically challenged members of the community. Recreational experiences may include physical, social, and creative activities, as well as, special events designed specifically for this population.
In addition, the department encourages all community members that may have a disability to participate in programs, and all attempts shall be made to accommodate the individual.
These programs have been developed as part of the City's multi-faceted neighborhood reinvestment strategy. Development of this neighborhood-based recreation program is made possible thru Community Development Block Grant Funds. Free to city residents within income guidelines. Income guidelines forms are printed in the activity brochures, and must be turned in to the Leisure Services office at time of registration. Income guidelines change annually, and vary according to the number of persons in a household. City residents who meet the guidelines according to the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) documents for Dubuque County qualify for free Neighborhood Recreation Programs.
- Preschool recreation and instruction at Comiskey Park building
- Open Gym program on weekends during the winter
- Recreation classes and activities during the summer months via a special brochure
- After school programs and after school sports offerings
Adventure Day Camp and Summer Classes
During the summer months, an Adventure Day Camp program is held at Four Mounds Foundation and numerous recreational classes are provided at various sites throughout the community.
