Assessment Grant

Assessment Grants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency provide funding to inventory, characterize, assess, and conduct planning and community involvement related to brownfields sites. In 2013, the City of Dubuque was awarded an Assessment Grant for $400,000 for the management of hazardous materials and petroleum contamination

Recent Activity

Highlighted below include some of the progress, tasks, and activities completed in the most recent fiscal Quarter:

  • Conducted and/or completed assessment for hazardous substances at 2 sites
  • Conducted and/or completed assessment for petroleum contamination at 4 sites
  • Submitted eligibility requests for hazardous substances at 5 sites
  • Submitted eligibility requests for petroleum contamination at 2 sites
  • Received approval for eligibility for petroleum contamination at 2 sites
  • Submitted an application for FY16 EPA Clean-Up grant to move towards full clean-up for 1 site at 501 E. 15th Street

Projected Activity

The City expects to accomplish the following work plan activities during the next Federal Fiscal Quarter of FY16:
  • Complete Phase I assessments on remaining property sites, including: 5 Jones Street, 45 Jones Street, 85 Terminal Street, 115 Terminal Street, 100 East 1st Street, and PINs 1130155002, 1130305013, and 1130305012

  • Complete Phase II Sampling Plans and Phase II ESAs for priority sites approved by the Community Engagement Team (see sites below):
