Council Member Joyce Connors

Overview
Joyce E. Connors, of 660 Edith St., joined the Dubuque City Council in January of 2002.  She was re-elected in 2005, 2009, and again in November 2013. She is currently serving her fourth term and represents the City's Third Ward.

Background
Councilwoman Connors moved to Dubuque at the age of 19. She worked at John Deere until she and her husband started their family. She spent 18 years as a stay-at-home wife/mother doing a variety of volunteering at her church, her kids' schools and in the community. She then enrolled at Clarke College, graduating in 1989 with a BA in Psychology. After graduation she worked in the domestic violence prevention field, the adoption field and finally as Director of the Office for Protection of Children at the Archdiocese of Dubuque. Councilwoman Connors retired in 2007.

Civic Involvement
During her 13 years on the City Council, Councilwoman Connors has served on the Dubuque Metropolitan Area Transportation Study Committee, Dubuque Initiatives, Operation New View Board, Convention and Visitors Bureau, Greater Dubuque Development Corporation, Safe Community Task Force, and REAP. She has been an active participant in both the Iowa League of Cities and the National League of Cities. She previsously served on the Riverview Center, Inc. Board and the Hills and Dales Child Development Board. 

Family
Councilwoman Connors and her husband, Tom, have four adult children and six grandchildren.
